POLICE in Port Talbot are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found at a Sandfields house.

Officers are treating the death of Marlene Keogh, 59, who lived alone, as unexplained pending the results of a post mortem which has been arranged.

Police were called to the property in St Asaph Drive shortly before 9.25am yesterday.

Officers are carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area.

An incident room has been set up at Sandfields Police Station.

Next of kin have been informed and the family are being supported by a trained family liaison officer.

Detective Superintendent Paul Hurley, head of the South Wales Police specialist crime investigations team, said: "At this stage we are keeping an open mind regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of Marlene Keogh.

"We want to hear from anyone who saw or heard from her between 4.15pm on Tuesday and 9.25am on Wednesday when her body was discovered.

"This is a well-established community in the Sandfields area and we are appealing to anyone who saw any visitors to the house or noticed anything unusual to contact the police."

Anyone with any information concerning this incident should contact the Incident Room on 01639 889772 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
