A WOMAN had to be airlifted to hospital after falling off her bike on a Swansea footbridge.
The 45-year-old casualty was flown by Sea King from RAF Chivenor to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff following the accident in Blackpill on Monday night at 6.53pm.
A coastguard spokesman said they were alerted to the scene by the ambulance service due to the nature of the woman's injuries.
He said: "We had a call from the ambulance service who requested coastguard assistance for a female who fell off her bike on the footbridge at Blackpill.
"We tasked the Mumbles coastguard rescue team to assist the ambulance service because her injuries were suspected to be neck or spinal injuries.
"The coastguard requested the RAF helicopter from Chivenor who airlifted the casualty to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff."
The Mumbles coastguard rescue team remained on the scene until 8.15pm.
