MUMBLES opened up the slightest of gaps between themselves and Sketty Church at the top of division one in the Alpha Fasteners West Wales Cricket Association with a nine-wicket win over Port Talbot.

Rhys Marchant and Jamie Sheldon both took 3-24 and Ryan Wiltshire claimed 2-28 as Mumbles dismissed Port Talbot for 120, before an unbeaten 75 from opener Tony Dowrick helped them race to their target in just 20.3 overs.

Victory gave league leaders Mumbles a two-point cushion at the top of the table, while second-placed Sketty Church thrashed Pontarddulais by eight wickets.

Sketty Church's bowlers recorded some remarkable figures, as Dan Hughes (4-8), Richard Davies (2-3) and John Doyle (3-6) helped skittle Bont for just 42.

Six of Pontarddulais's batsmen were dismissed for ducks, while captain and No. 11 Ben Roberts was the only player to reach double figures with 12 not out.

Sketty Church's run-chase was a comfortable one, with Rob Jones (16no) and Jagadish Singh (20no) seeing them home in 7.4 overs.

Tata Steel's title hopes took a major hit as they were deducted 26 points for canceling their game against Ynysygerwn.

That left the third-placed side 49 points behind Sketty Church, and Skewen kept up the pressure in fourth with a 67-run triumph over Cimla.

Gareth McNeil struck an unbeaten 88 and Liam Thomas hit 47 as Skewen posted 259-8 from 45 overs.

Amar Muhammed led Cimla's run-chase with a knock of 79, but they were undone by Ashley Churchill (6-44) and Liam Thomas (4-55) as Skewen bowled them out for 192.

In the league's other fixture, Llangennech beat Dafen by four wickets.

Alan Warner claimed 6-21 and Craig Frater hit 59 as Dafen were dismissed for 168, before an unbeaten 79 from opener Ceri Richards eased Llangennech to their target.

Ystradgynlais extended their lead at the top of division two with a thumping 138-run win against Penllergaer.

Carwyn Williams and Edward King both scored 58 as Ystrad declared on 219-5, before Iwan Evans took 3-21 to help dismiss Penllergaer for 81.

Ystradgynlais are now 31 points ahead of second-placed Ammanford, who only just snuck past Swansea Civil Service's 84 to win by three wickets.

In the league's remaining fixtures, Ynystawe bowled Gowerton out for 91 on their way to a ten-wicket romp, while Morriston conceded their match to Swansea.
