IT was double joy for one Trimsaran mum — not only did she raise thousands for a charity close to her heart — but her partner proposed in the process.
Amanda Lloyd has undergone an operation for grade three cancer, and as she prepares for chemotherapy, the mum of two held a fundraiser to give something back to Prince Philip Hospital.
The event, which saw her bravely shave her head to show her support for other women going through the tough treatment, ended with a her long-term partner Jeremy Wainwright popping the question.
"The event was absolutely outstanding," she said. "Trimsaran Workingmen's Club was jam-packed. We could not believe how many had turned out. I remember before the event saying if we raise £500 I'll be chuffed, but we absolutely smashed that by raising £2,045.
"When I had my head shaved there was not a dry eye in the room — it was a really emotional time.
"And then we came home in the early hours of the morning and my partner proposed to me, it was amazing.
"He proposed in the traditional way, it was lovely. The weekend has just been a bit of a whirlwind.
"As soon as I have recovered I will be going down the aisle — nothing will stop me, if I have hair or not."
The 43-year-old, of Trilwm, who recently underwent her first pre-chemotherapy assessment, said a big thanks to everyone who has helped her in her fundraising efforts — stating that their efforts have been "amazing".
"I can't wait to get started with the chemotherapy," she said. "I can't say I'm looking forward to it but I want to get started so there is less time to have treatment.
"I have had such good care from Prince Philip Hospital, they have been there 100 per cent of the time and nothing has been too much trouble."
Ms Lloyd said she hopes the money raised will help "give something back" after all they have done for her.
"Hopefully through this fundraising they can see how grateful I am," she said.
