GLAMORGAN fought back against Hampshire on the second day of their LV= County Championship encounter at the Swalec Stadium, dismissing the visitors for 341 before reaching 114-3 at tea. Hampshire had made a strong start on the opening day, electing to bat after winning the toss and reaching 274-5 at the close. But a couple of early wickets and a half-century from Gareth Rees hauled Glamorgan back into contention as they seek only their second four-day win of the season. Michael Hogan made the breakthrough in the fourth over, tempting Liam Dawson into an edge to Jim Allenby at slip to end his stubborn 194-ball resistance at 72. Allenby then claimed a scalp of his own in the next over, as a beautiful swinging delivery glanced the edge of Sohail Tanvir's bat and into the gloves of Mark Wallace. That left Hampshire 286-7, an admirable restricting effort from Glamorgan on a dry and less than helpful pitch. The away side added 45 runs for the eighth wicket and looked to be progressing serenely, until Adam Wheater was caught by Will Owen as he attempted a reckless reverse-sweep off Dean Cosker's bowling. Glamorgan then polished off the visitors' tail with minimal fuss, as Mike Reed had David Balcombe caught by Wallace for three and then James Tomlinson edged Cosker to Allenby at slip as lunch was taken with Hampshire all out for 341. The hosts made an uncertain start to their first innings, struggling against the angled left-arm seam bowling of Tanvir and Tomlinson. Ben Wright was the first to fall, slashing loosely at a Tomlinson delivery and edging to wicket-keeper Wheater for 20. Glamorgan were soon two down, as Walters failed to get off the mark before his edge off Tanvir found Sean Ervine at first slip to leave his side 35-2. Gareth Rees and Marcus North dug in with a stand of 49, but the latter was sent to the pavilion after he was stumped off the bowling of Danny Briggs. Rees, playing his first game of the season, then brought up his half-century as Glamorgan reached 114-3 at tea.
