THE Welsh Government's lack of borrowing powers has again been queried.
Owen Smith MP, Labour's shadow Welsh secretary, said action was "desperately" needed on this matter.
Mr Smith's remarks came yesterday, following the announcement of an economic package for Northern Ireland.
"After today's announcement of extra borrowing powers for Northern Ireland, the Welsh Government remains unique among UK elected bodies in not having any borrowing powers at all," he said.
"Yet after facing cuts of £1.4 billion to its budgets, the Welsh Government desperately needs to be able to invest in major projects to generate jobs and get the economy moving."
Mr Smith said it had been seven months since the Silk Commission recommended borrowing powers for Wales.
He said the Wales Office still had not responded.
"I can't understand what the holdup is," he said.
