THE purr-fect pad for cats while their owners are on holiday could be on its way to Carmarthen with plans for a pet hotel in the town.

The former GWD Motors site on Heol Salem, Johnstown, could be transformed into a venue for cats, budgies and hamsters, among others.

Llangynog resident Ann Richards is behind the plans and has applied for permission to Carmarthenshire Council.

She said: "It would be more than a cattery and we hope to open it as a sort of pet hotel.

Chickens

"I want to call it Arch Noah (Noah's Ark in Welsh) and there could be up to four full-time and four part-time staff.

"People could even bring chickens to stay with us if they wanted to, we are going to cater for small animals.

"There is always the issue of having to rehome pets when people go away on holiday and obviously catteries are used, but I thought why not open it up to other small animals?

"Hopefully it will attract a lot of interest."

Managing the venture will be Sian Lewis, who lives in Carmarthen.

Mrs Richards said: "Sian will run the place day-to-day and we are now just waiting for the plans to go to the planning committee at the council."

A report to the committee by planning agent Adrian Rowlands Architects, looking at the impact of the project in terms of generating more traffic in the Johnstown and Pondside area, states this will not be an issue.

It states: "With the development of the business and to promote sustainability, it is proposed to develop a collection and return service for the convenience of customers, which will also vastly reduce the customers calling at the premises during the weekends."
