HUW Jenkins and Michael Laudrup are on course for showdown talks — but the Swansea City chairman is refusing to be drawn on the Dane's future.
The two men are due to meet amid suggestions of a rift over transfer plans, which is threatening to cast doubt over Laudrup's tenure at the Liberty Stadium. Laudrup's agent, Bayram Tutumlu, says a number of clubs have made enquiries about his client, but he insists the 48-year-old is eager to stay at Swansea.
Laudrup signed a new contract earlier this year, but Tutumlu claims it was on the condition that the Swansea board deliver on their "promise" of significant spending this summer.
The Evening Post understands Jenkins and Laudrup are due to hold talks about the spending plans but, when he was asked when that meeting would be taking place, Jenkins would only say: "I will not comment on this story."
Jenkins had previously said: "It's been a long season and when the time is right we will sit down with Michael to talk more about next season in a professional manner."
Swansea will be eager to resolve this issue as soon as possible, with as many as eight clubs reportedly interested in making Laudrup their manager.
Real Madrid, Chelsea, Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain are among those who are believed to be admirers of the former Barcelona player, who succeeded Brendan Rodgers as Swansea's boss last summer.
It has been an excellent first season in charge for Laudrup, winning the Capital One Cup and securing a ninth-placed finish in the Premier League. That success brings its own challenges, however, and unless Swansea invest heavily this summer, Laudrup believes it will be extremely difficult to improve on his first campaign.
Meanwhile, Swansea's hopes of landing striker Iago Aspas look to have been dealt a major blow after Liverpool agreed a fee of £7.7 million with Celta Vigo for the frontman.
A move to Anfield has yet to be confirmed, but the fact Liverpool have agreed a deal with the Spanish club puts them in pole position in the race for his signature.
Aspas is one of a number of strikers Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has targeted as he looks to add more firepower to his squad.
Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku, St Etienne's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Wigan's Arouna Kone are also on his wanted list.
