THE family of a Trimsaran biker who died after a collision with a police car are set for a legal challenge as part of their quest for answers.

Richard Wheeler's sister Michelle Powell has confirmed that a date for a civil hearing with Dyfed-Powys Police has been lodged in Cardiff for July 17.

Mr Wheeler, of Coed y Clun, died aged 45 on January 17, 2010, after his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a police car on the B4317 Carway Road at around 1.30pm.

After a three-day inquest, coroner Mark Leyton came to a verdict that the cause of Mr Wheeler's death was an accident.

Speaking after the hearing, Mrs Powell vowed to continue to solve unanswered questions, and said the court date was a milestone development in the family's efforts.

Mrs Powell said: "It has been a long time coming.

"It's been a lot of hard work and running around trying to get the pieces together and whatever information we can. Things like this bring it all back and everyone gets upset.

"It's too bad families like ours have to go through this. You are looking at nearly three and a half years and there is still no closure there.

"But we feel just as strongly about it now as the day it happened, maybe even more strongly."

In July last year, Mrs Powell slammed Dyfed-Powys Police for being insensitive after she opened a parcel to find blood-stained medical apparatus that had been used on her brother at the scene.

She had requested the clothes he was wearing on that day, and the force apologised for any distress caused.

Mrs Powell added that the whole ordeal had not been easy, but the family had been forced to move forwards with their lives.

"It has especially not been easy for my dad. He is not a well man himself and losing a son the way he has is a hell of a thing to have to contend with," she said.

"It will be nice when it's all over and there will be closure one way or the other, but it won't be the end for us."
