MORE than 1,000 people have already voiced their opinions about Swansea Council's Gypsy traveller site short-list.
However, there is still over week of the formal consultation left for anyone interested to have their say.
The five short-listed sites are: the former greyhound stadium (Cockett); the rear of Parc Melyn Mynach (Gorseinon); proposed cemetery (Gorseinon); Swansea Vale (Llansamlet); and Milford Way (Penderry).
Martin Saville, the council's head of public protections said: "A number of Gypsy and traveller families have lived in Swansea for quite some time without proper facilities for themselves and their children.
"We need to look at finding a suitable location to create a second legal site.
"The public have been getting involved in the consultation since December and we have had over 1,000 responses so far."
Currently there is only one legal Gypsy and traveller site in Swansea, but it is full.
The Welsh Government says all local authorities in Wales need to look at the needs of Gypsies and travellers as part of its assessment of accommodation needs.
And an assessment carried out by Swansea Council identified a need for further accommodation for families currently based in Swansea.
June Burtonshaw, the council's  cabinet member for place, added: "We are keen to get the views of our residents in relation to our work so far in looking for an appropriate site.
"Like all councils in Wales, we have to ensure there is adequate provision for Gypsies and travellers who live in Swansea.
"Residents have until the end of March to get involved and let us know what they think."
