THE number of students hoping for a place at Swansea University has risen significantly.
Applications for entry in September have increased by 18.2 per cent.
The rise includes a 15 per cent increase in languages, a 20 per cent increase in history and a 64 per cent increase in maths and computer science and engineering.
Swansea University professor Alan Speight said: "These figures are excellent news for Swansea as it shows that students are recognising a university which is on the way up. The increase in applications are a vindication of the massive investment which is being put into the campus expansion and recognition of the support we have from the Welsh Government.
"By 2015 the university will have a new Science and Innovation Campus to complement an upgraded Singleton Park Campus.
"Overall student satisfaction has been steadily increasing and last year we achieved a score of 87 per cent, higher than the Wales and UK average, with 89 per cent of students saying they would recommend the university as a place of study."
The university will host a week of employability workshops from Monday.
