DETAILS of a housing development which could transform a former college site in Swansea will go on public display later this month.
Between 20 and 30 homes are being proposed for part of the former Bible College Wales site in Sketty, under plans put forward by property consultants Jones Lang LaSalle.
The consultants claim the development on the western side of Derwen Fawr Road, will offer a range of "much-needed" family homes and breathe new life into the site which has been vacant since the Bible College relocated.
A spokesman for Jones Lang LaSalle said the homes will be designed to retain the character of the area and provide connections to the surrounding countryside with newly built and existing foot paths leading to a woodland reserve and the Clyne Valley Country Park.
The consultant, acting on behalf of the landowner Global Horizons Trust, has held preliminary discussions with Swansea Council and is now asking people living nearby for their views on the plans.
Kevin Hunt, associate director at Jones Lang LaSalle, is leading the planning application process and said: "New homes are desperately needed in the area and these plans mean the site can become a lively community once again.
"We hope our proposals will be seen as being in keeping with the character and feel of the area and that's why we're keen to hear the views of the local community, to ensure we're getting it right."
A public exhibition and consultation event to present the development proposals will be held at the United Reformed Church, Sketty Park Road on Wednesday, January 23, from 2:30pm to 7pm.
Gay Mitchell, chair of the Blackpill, Derwen Fawr and Mayals Residents' Association, has lived in the area for 40 years and said: "I think it is difficult for people to complain about this one because it is not on the flood plain.
"We need to look at the plans."
Developer Taylor Wimpey has built 29 two, three and four bedroom homes at Bryn Newydd off Derwen Fawr Road, which was visited last year by C4's Location, Location, Location property guru Phil Spencer.
Nine properties are yet to be sold at the site where homes range in price from £329,995 to £449,995.
