Late fitness tests for Swansea City's Michu and Angel Rangel ahead of Aston Villa clash

SWANSEA City will give Michu and Angel Rangel late fitness tests ahead of today's clash with Aston Villa.

Michu has been suffering with a badly bruised ankle picked up at Reading on Boxing Day and missed Swansea's win at Fulham on Saturday.

And Rangel is again suffering with a calf complaint after returning from a three-game lay-off at Craven Cottage.

"Michu's ankle is still big but it's not dangerous," said boss Michael Laudrup.

"If he can get his foot in the boot then I think it's only a question of whether he can play with some pain.

"If he gets a kick it will hurt a lot but in the end it's up to him. It's not like a muscle injury where you risk losing him for a longer period."

If he is passed fit, top-scorer Michu is likely to be one of a number of fresh faces in the Swansea line-up today after Laudrup made seven changes at Fulham.

The likes of Michel Vorm, Chico Flores, Ben Davies, Leon Britton and Ki Sung-Yueng are all likely to return.

Laudrup would also like to have Rangel involved, though the form of Dwight Tiendalli means there is no desperate need for him to play.

"We have to look at Angel," Laudrup added.

"In a perfect world he would only have played 70 minutes at Fulham but I am only allowed three substitutes.

"He got cramp first, then he got a kick as well. The kick is not worrying me, it's more how the muscle is reacting. That's a decision I will take before the game."

Real Betis midfielder Jose Canas is the latest name being linked with Swansea as the transfer window opens.

And Bristol City winger Albert Adomah, a player Swansea have previously targeted, has also been mentioned again.
