A MAN who admitted driving while under the influence of drugs has appeared in court.

Stuart Corbett, 26, of Linden Avenue, West Cross, also pleaded guilty to charges of taking a vehicle without consent, driving without a licence and without insurance.

At 12.46am on October 19 police were called and told there had been a collision at the mini roundabout on Fairwood Road in West Cross.

As they arrived they saw a VW Golf had collided with a metal barrier.

He was breathalysed after police suspected he was drunk but no traces of alcohol were found.

Corbett, who later admitted taking cannabis and diazepam, was being given treatment by paramedics.

The car was owned by his girlfriend, who had hidden the keys to stop him driving it, city magistrates heard.

A pre-sentence report was ordered but the case was adjourned until January 10 because Corbett has medical appointments because of injuries sustained in the crash.
