A MAN has been knocked down and killed while walking on the M4 in the early hours of the morning.

It is not known why the pedestrian, whose identity is not known, was on the motorway.

But it is understood there were no vehicles parked or broken down nearby. Police are now appealing for witnesses to contact them, so they can work out exactly what happened.

The incident took place at around 12.30am on the westbound carriageway between junction 45 for Morriston and junction 46 for Llangyfelach, when the man was in collision with a coach.

Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene. They have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading up to the death.

Officers confirmed the man had not yet been identified, and urged anyone with information about yesterday's collision to come forward.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: "Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the westbound carriageway of the M4 motorway between junctions 45 and 46 north of Swansea.

"A white-coloured 52-seat coach was in collision with a male pedestrian.

"The pedestrian who was pronounced deceased at the scene has yet to be formally identified.

"Witnesses to the collision — or anyone with sightings of the pedestrian beforehand — are asked to contact police."
