South Wales West AM Bethan Jenkins has been banned from driving for 20 months after after admitting being behind the wheel while over the alcohol limit.
Cardiff Magistrates' Court heard the Neath-based AM, 30, was stopped by police in the capital in the early hours of Sunday, October 14, after officers saw her driving erratically.
The court was told Ms Jenkins decided to drive to her parents home after leaving a friend's party in Cardiff.
Ms Jenkins was suspended from Plaid Cymru's Assembly group after her arrest in Llandaff.
The court heard she was found to be more than twice the legal drink-drive limit.
Ms Jenkins said in a statement today: "This incident is one I regret wholeheartedly and I am deeply sorry.
"On this occasion, I fell well below the standards I expect of myself and I therefore fully accept the judge's decision in this matter.
"I would like to thank the police for the manner in which they have dealt with this process.
"This has been a difficult period, in which I've begun to come to terms with depression for the first time.
"Friends and others, including many from South Wales West, the region I represent with tremendous pride, have shown wonderful support, for which I am truly thankful."I will always be grateful to them for their kindness, which has been a source of great comfort."
