SCARLETS flanker Johnathan Edwards insists the players are determined not to allow their European struggles impact on the region's quest to make the RaboDirect Pro12 play-offs.
The West Walians are rooted to the foot of their Heineken Cup pool with just two losing bonus points to show from their four matches.
Back-to-back defeats at the hands of Exeter Chiefs have threatened to derail a season that offered so much promise back in September.
But as the Scarlets prepare for the resumption of league action and a visit to the Arms Park to take on Cardiff Blues on Friday night, Edwards is adamant the region can rediscover the winning habit.
"We are second for a reason and are determined not to let that slip away from us," said the experienced openside.
"We had been hoping to get a victory in Exeter to move us into the Rabo. Unfortunately, we didn't get that, but we intend to stay in that second spot and also push Ulster.
"It is a busy period as a squad with three away games to come in the league, but we have had a few victories on the road this season and are looking forward to it."
The Scarlets do boast a good record against the Blues in recent years, having won the last six meetings between the sides.
Phil Davies's men are another side still searching for a first European win, while they have also slipped to ninth in the Pro12 table.
"The Blues will be hurting, like us, it will be a tough game," added Edwards, who had short spell at the Arms Park at the start of his career.
"We are all disappointed by what has happened in Europe over the last couple of weeks. We have started poorly in both matches and our accuracy has also let us down.
"But we are a proud team and we have a lot to play for in the league."
