A BUMPER weekend of music is set to continue in the Swansea Valley today and tomorrow thanks to the influence of pubs.

Pontardawe was set to lose its popular folk festival for a second time this week but landlords in the town stepped in to save the day.

When the town's Chamber of Trade, which had resurrected the Pontardawe Music Festival several years ago, failed to secure a grant to run this year's event, local landlords decided to arrange their own festival.

Steve Tustain, from the Pontardawe Inn, said: "Pontardawe has held a music festival every year since 1978, over the past few years it has moved back into the centre of the town with the Chamber of Trade putting on acts outside the Art Centre.

"This year due to a lack of funding it has been left to the pubs to keep the event The programme kicked off on Thursday night and will continue through until Sunday and with seven venues and over 50 acts playing there will be plenty to pick from."

The last band begins at 7pm tomorrow.
