MOTORISTS had a lucky escape when a massive tree fell over a Swansea road.
Drivers couldn't believe their eyes when they saw the huge tree trunk had come crashing down and was overhanging Brynmill Lane last night.
Resident Sarah Kennedy described seeing the tree as "something out of Lord of the Rings."
Many drivers were just glad no-one had been hurt in the sudden tree fall.
Swansea-based Rob O'Shea said: "It looks like no-body has been hurt but still.
"It could have done a lot of damage if the wall hadn't broken the fall."
He added: "I just hope the lane won't be closed for too long when they remove it."
He said he believed the tree was 200 to 300 years old and that any of them could fall in the same way.
Neil Pigdon said it was a shame that the tree had come down.
He added: "Very sad to see such a big beast topple!"
A fire service spokeswoman said they were informed about the tree but alerted the local authority and the highways department about the problem.
She said: "The cars were still passing underneath the tree.
"We didn't deal with the incident.
"We passed the information on to the local authority and the highways department."
