AS one would expect, a new Dylan Thomas tour of Swansea takes in a few pubs, but the literary vintage should be excellent.

While there have been other guided walks through the town of the famous poet's birth, the newest incarnation promises to be the most dramatic by far as it is being led by a theatre company.

Dylan's Swansea will be presented by Fluellen Theatre Company in the hope of showing Swansea through the poet's own words with performances of his work along the route.

Born in the front bedroom of 5 Cwmdonkin Drive in 1914 the creator of such classics as Under Milk Wood and Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night relied upon his Swansea childhood for vast amounts of his work, so there is no shortage of suitable material.

Peter Richards, artistic director for city-based Fluellen Theatre Company, said: "The City Centre Dylan Thomas Trail is being previewed this year in preparation for the Dylan Thomas anniversary year celebrations in 2014. Then it will expand to include tours of Uplands, Mumbles and Gower, Laugharne and Cardiganshire.

"Included in the trails will be performances of Dylan Thomas's poetry and prose relevant to the sites visited.

"As a Swansea boy myself, and growing up in the town, as it was then, just after the Second World War, I can remember many of the old buildings that Dylan wrote about. And those that I can't remember because they were destroyed in the terrifying Three Nights Blitz of Swansea in 1940, my father, a regular visitor to the old Kardomah Café, himself, painted memorable verbal pictures of for me."

Swansea Council's literature officer, Jo Furber, said: "We're delighted to be working with the Fluellen Theatre Company to present these performance- based guided tours of Dylan's central Swansea. They will inform and entertain locals and visitors alike, and will also take place as part of our Dylan Thomas centenary celebrations in 2014."

A guided tour of Dylan's places will take place on Saturday, starting at 2pm from outside the Dylan Thomas Centre and will be repeated two weeks later.
