THE Swansea Bay Bowls Festival pairs quarter-finals produced some quality play with three of the matches resulting in comfortable wins and the other tie going to the wire.
Steve Rees and Leighton Voyle were good value for their 17-9 victory against Peter Morris and Dai Richards, with Morris and Richards only scoring on five of the 14 ends played.
It was similar story for John Glover and Alun Jones who went down 21-7 to father and son Alan and Mark Jones. Although Glover and Jones scored a four on the first end, they only managed to score on one more end and were convincingly beaten
Jim Hoskins and Idris Jones produced a quality performance to defeat fancied pair Dale McCarthy and Phil Carpenter. They were always in control and ran out 20-9 winners.
The tie of the night was the pairing of Tom Snellgrove and John Morgan against Ryan Jenkins and Nigel Cunnah. Snellgrove and Morgan led 11-10 going into the last end and held shot until the last bowl when Jenkins drew a good weighted bowl to win the end. In the extra end both pairs were holding shot, but it was the Jenkins and Cunnah partnership that scored the vital shot to put them into the semi-finals.
