Dai Greene to miss anniversary games

DAI Greene's troubled season has continued after he was ruled out of the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games on Saturday afternoon.

The Swansea Harrier misses the meeting in London with a leg injury.

Greene has been suffering with an inflamed Achilles in recent days — the same injury which caused him to miss the Diamond League meeting in Monaco last week.

But it is thought his absence from the field is no more than a precaution, and he is still on course to defend his 400 metres hurdles world title in Moscow next month.

Greene would have been keen to run at the Olympic Stadium as he looks to return to his best form.

The Llanelli man has been below his best so far this summer, a combination of a double hernia operation and a virus seeing him struggle. He will still be a keen observer as Saturday's race will feature one of the best fields assembled this year.

It is headed by American Michael Tinsley, the fastest man in the world this summer, while the likes of Olympic champion Felix Sanchez, Javier Culson and Bershawn Jackson also feature.

Greene's fellow Welshman Rhys Williams also lines up.
