JONJO Shelvey is aiming to become Swansea City's first ever England star by shining at the Liberty Stadium this season.
Shelvey has quickly found his feet at his new club even though he has not yet had a chance to say his goodbyes at former club Liverpool.
And Swansea's new £5 million central midfielder hopes the move to Wales will mean an opportunity to play for England.
Shelvey won his solitary senior cap to date as a substitute against San Marino last October.
If he can now add to that tally, he will become the first player to be capped by the English while playing for Swansea.
The likes of Frank Lampard and John Salako have gone on to play for England after wearing the Swansea shirt, while men like Gerry Francis and Emlyn Hughes came to the Vetch when their international careers were over.
"It will be part of Swansea's history when one of their players plays for England and fingers crossed it can be me who does it," Shelvey said.
"If I get the chance to play every week here, I feel I can get myself into the England squad.
"It was an exciting time when I got my first cap, not just for me but for my family as well.
"It's every kid's dream to play for England and especially to do it at Wembley as well was magnificent.
"I hope coming to Swansea will help me get more chances with England.
"If I do play every week I hope my performances will get recognised international-wise." Shelvey was part of the England Under-21 side which flopped at the European Championship this summer, and he is still eligible for that squad for another two years.
But ideally, the former Charlton youngster's performances in a Swansea shirt will see him claiming a place in the senior squad.
And Shelvey, who played under Roy Hodgson at Anfield, rejects the idea that he may drift off the England manager's radar because Swansea are not regarded as a big club.
"That wasn't in my thinking when I came here," he said.
"It was about getting back to playing football and finding my feet at a club again.
"Later on down the line, if you are putting the performances in, I am sure Roy Hodgson will not be bothered about who you play for.
"Look at Ryan Shawcross at Stoke. You'd say they are not a massive club but he got his chance with England so I don't think it will affect me."
Leon Britton, Wayne Routledge and Nathan Dyer plus old boys Danny Graham and Scott Sinclair have all been touted as potential England players during Swansea's Premier League adventure, but as yet there has been no call-up.
Shelvey has enjoyed a promising pre-season tour having met up with his new team-mates in Holland last week.
He will feature when Swansea play their last game of the trip against ADO Den Haag today (11.30am BST) before returning to Liverpool to pack for the move to SA1.
