IN the countdown to 100th anniversary of Dylan Thomas's birth his 76th wedding anniversary has been remembered.
The Swansea-born poet, who moved up to London to find fame and fortune in the literary world, met chorus line dancer Caitlin Macnamara in a pub and fell instantly in love and offered a drunken proposal there and then.
The pair married for real at the register office in Penzance, Cornwall, on 11 July 1937.
In the build up to the Dylan 100 celebrations next year Swansea West Geraint Davies MP has been doing a spot of research into the poet's life.
He said: "It was a pleasure to meet up with Dylan Thomas's trustee Michael Rush on the 76th anniversary of Dylan Thomas's wedding anniversary.
"We discussed arrangements for next year's Dylan Thomas centenary celebrations in Swansea to be showcased by me and Hannah Ellis, Dylan's grand daughter, in the parliamentary reception for ambassadors in October.
"It was a rare privilege to see first hand Dylan Thomas and Caitlin's marriage certificate."
