GLAMORGAN are piling pressure on Hampshire after making an early declaration in their LV= County Championship Division Two clash, reducing the visitors to 75-6 at tea on day three. Gareth Rees scored his first century since 2011 as Glamorgan declared on 300-6 shortly after lunch, a bold call considering they still trailed Hampshire by 41 runs at that point. It paid dividends, however, as Michael Hogan and Marcus North took two wickets each to propel the hosts into an unlikely winning position – with Hampshire leading by 116 runs but with only four wickets in hand. Matthew Mott's men had a mixed morning, with Rees and Murray Goodwin moving them on from their overnight score of 196-3 to 266-3 before both were dismissed in successive overs. Rees was the first to go, edging a David Balcombe delivery to Liam Dawson at slip for 112, before Goodwin was removed leg before by Sohail Tanvir for 86. That brought two new batsmen, Jim Allenby and Mark Wallace, to the crease and the latter did not last long as he was also trapped leg before by Tanvir for a duck. Having slumped from 266-3 to 272-6, Glamorgan emerged from the lunch interval for just a couple of balls before declaring on 300-6. Home captain Mark Wallace was soon vindicated, as Michael Carberry was out for a duck thanks to a superb one-handed catch from Stewart Walters off the bowling of Mike Reed. Carberry's opening partner Jimmy Adams was the next to depart, stumped by Wallace off North, and Liam Dawson then made the grave error of leaving a North off-cutter which duly made a mess of his stumps. Hampshire showed hints of recovering by moving to 50-3, but then they lost three wickets for just three runs. Hogan sparked the collapse when he ran out James Vince, and the Australian seamer then trapped Sean Ervine leg before for three and clean bowled Adam Wheater for a duck. The tide of wickets was eventually stemmed by Neil McKenzie, whose unbeaten 29 guided Hampshire to 75-6 at tea.
