MINISTER for Transport Edwina Hart was today set to visit the new refurbished Gowerton Station.
The work, which was part of a now completed £48 million programme, sees the station now boast two platforms and upgraded facilities and be served by an additional 95 services every week.
Mrs Hart said: "The Welsh Government's priority is to ensure that we have a transport system that helps improve the economic competiveness of Wales and that provides good access to jobs and services and reducing poverty for the people of Wales.
"Better links between communities mean better access to employment, education training and leisure opportunities which is a key aspect of tackling economic and social deprivation.
"I am pleased that we have been able to support this important project."
Work has also been completed at the Loughor viaduct, which is hoped will lead to fewer delays.
Mark Langman, route managing director for Network Rail Wales, added: "The announcement marks a new beginning for the railway in South West Wales."
