Future doubts for Swansea stars left out of pre-season tour

MICHAEL Laudrup has sent a blunt pre-season message to four senior players by leaving them out of Swansea City's tour of Holland. Swansea stalwart Alan Tate, midfielder Kemy Agustien and strikers Luke Moore and Leroy Lita were all left behind when Laudrup's men departed for The Hague yesterday afternoon. There are now major question marks surrounding the Swansea futures of the quartet, with Laudrup's decision to omit them a clear indication that they are not part of his plans for the new season. Another player who looks to be on his way out of Swansea is Curtis Obeng, who has also been told to remain in Swansea for the next ten days. Perhaps the biggest surprise among the tour absentees is Moore given that he made 20 appearances under Laudrup last season. The 27-year-old, who has a year left on his contract, has never nailed down a place in the Swansea side. But the former West Brom player has been a useful asset at times and is one of the few natural centre-forwards on the club's books at present. Tate has been a Swansea regular throughout much of his time at the club, but opportunities have been limited since promotion to the Premier League. His first season at the top level was ruined by a broken leg and, after making four appearances in the early stages of last term, he was frozen out by Laudrup. A firm favourite with Swansea's fans, Tate still has two seasons to run on his contract and is set for a testimonial game at the end of the current campaign. However, it may be that the 30-year-old former Manchester United youngster ends up severing his ties with Swansea as he searches for first-team football. Agustien has only one year to run on his Swansea deal, but he too may now look to move this summer after Laudrup's snub. The Dutchman, who will turn 27 later this month, made 15 appearances under Laudrup last season and impressed at times, most notably in the draw with Manchester United in December. But it appears Agustien is deemed surplus to requirements with the likes of Jose Canas and Jonjo Shelvey adding to Laudrup's midfield options. The least surprising omission among the senior players is that of Lita, for the 28-year-old has not played for Swansea since Brendan Rodgers left the Liberty. Striker Lita, whose contract expires at the end of this season, spent the majority of last season out on loan, first at Birmingham and then Sheffield Wednesday. It is thought the Owls are keen to sign Lita on a permanent basis, though the likes of Charlton and Wolves are also interested. Obeng, meantime, could leave Swansea without managing a single first-team appearance. He spent time on loan last season with Fleetwood and York. For the moment, the players left out of the touring party will train in Swansea with the club's younger professionals. New signings Jose Canas, Jordi Amat, Alejandro Pozuelo and Gregor Zabret were on the plane yesterday, but Roland Lamah was missing. It is understood the winger has told Swansea he is stranded in Ivory Coast but should join the squad in the next few days. Michel Vorm and Jonathan de Guzman, who were given extra time off because off international action in the summer, are due to begin training next week.
