YNYSTAWE pulled off a remarkable victory over twice-winners Goatacre in the first national round of the Village Cricket Cup.
Batting first Ynystawe racked up 252-6, with Andrew Beasley hitting 92 and Sion Jones smashing a quickfire 72 not out off 33 balls, an innings that contained five sixes and seven fours.
In reply, Goatacre got off to a flyer with their 50 coming up in just the fourth over. However, when they lost their first wicket with 109 on the board in the 10th over, the Ynystawe spinners took centre stage.
Beasley, Alex Fletcher and Rowan Evans took four wickets for just 72 runs off their 20 overs.
Goatacre needed 22 off the final over and despite the final three balls sailing over the boundary for six, the home side finished two runs short on 251-9.
Ynystawe will play at Rockhampton from Gloucestershire in the next round in two weeks' time.
