MORE needs to be done to tackle childhood obesity in Wales.
A call has been made by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) for more fitness experts to help encourage youngsters to take up sport and get more active.
It comes in the wake of Baroness Tanni Grey- Thompson urging for physical education to be made a core subject in Welsh schools, delivered by qualified staff.
The School and Physical Activity Task and Finish Group, which is led by the Paralympian, argued more time should be devoted to physical activity if Wales is to tackle its obesity problem.
John Byers, Welsh Officer for Register of Exercise Professionals, said childhood obesity in Wales has become a major health issue, with around one in five 13-year-olds overweight or obese.
