HOMES in need of repair in Carmarthenshire could soon receive the attention they deserve after a deal struck between councils and Government.
Carmarthenshire Council, along with 11 others across Wales, will now be able to use £73million a year in income from rents to the Treasury to invest in housing and pay for improvements in homes in need of repairs.
Mid and West Wales Assembly Member Rebecca Evans, said: "This is fantastic news for local authorities after a lot of hard work from Welsh Labour Ministers.
"The focus must now be on making sure that money is directed to those homes that do not meet Welsh Housing Quality Standard.
"Once again, the Welsh Labour Government is standing up for the people of Wales and making sure housing standards improve across authorities."
Welsh Labour's Minister for Housing and Regeneration, Carl Sargeant said: "This is an historic agreement which will have a direct impact upon the Welsh stock retention authorities and their current and future tenants."
