A BUSINESSMAN who fought the Sainsbury's development in Llandeilo says the town has the potential to create up to 90 extra jobs next year.
Simon Buckley, of Evan Evans Brewery, said Llandeilo was more than capable of surviving the decision by the supermarket chain to withdraw its plans for a store in the community.
It was announced recently that the company had dropped its bid, instead focusing on its application to build in Cross Hands.
Mr Buckley said: "Sainsbury's is gone — a decision that this town will not regret.For those Sainsbury's supporters, Cross Hands is not far away, and we will get on and start helping those that genuinely want to work in our community."
He said there was already potential in town to replace the extra jobs promised by the supermarket, including at his own firm on the Beechwood Estate.
"There are potentially 30 jobs available for the early part of 2013," he said. "There will be additional jobs from companies such as mine once planning has been given to our site
"I believe that Llandeilo could easily create another 60 jobs from businesses that I am aware of, and we for one will sponsor a Llandeilo jobs website, which will open in January 2013."
Mark James, chief executive of Carmarthenshire Council, has said he doubts the lost supermarket jobs can be replaced.
