SWANSEA City could smash their transfer record to sign French international striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

Lyon star Gomis has emerged as the latest frontman on Swansea's radar as they look to add firepower to Michael Laudrup's squad this summer.

The 27-year-old, who has been compared to Didier Drogba, could be available for a knockdown fee because he has only a year to run on his contract.

On top of that, Lyon have financial problems and have conceded they may have to sell some of their star players this summer.

Even so, Swansea would still have to fork out a fee well in excess of the current record, the £5.55 million splashed on Pablo Hernandez last summer.

Gomis, who has ten French caps, is thought likely to cost in excess of £10 million, and Swansea are not the only side who are interested. Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool have all been linked with him in the past, while Arsenal and Cardiff have been touted as potential suitors already this summer.

Laudrup, meantime, is now the 7-2 second favourite — behind Andre Villas-Boas — to be the next Paris St Germain manager despite stating in the Danish press over the weekend that he is not on the way to France. "I'm not negotiating with PSG, I'm staying at Swansea," Laudrup said.

"I only have focus on one thing — strengthening the team so much that we can manage the tasks next season and fulfil expectations.

"That's what counts for me."
