SWANSEA have kick-started their summer rebuilding with the signing of former Scarlets winger Darren Daniel (above) from Carmarthen Quins.

The Whites are aiming to bring in as many as seven players, and Daniel's arrival is indicative of a concerted effort to add more experience to the squad at St Helen's.

Although he is only 26, the Burry Port product has been in the game for eight years and scored 21 tries in 67 appearances during his six-season spell with the Scarlets.

Since leaving the West Wales region in 2011, Daniel has played for London Irish, Cornish Pirates and the Quins.

"We were looking to recruit players with Premiership experience but still relatively young, and Darren fits that bill," said Swansea's team manager Ian Hopkins.

"We've got a lot of promising young players at the club, but it was important we brought in more experienced players too."

Having finished bottom of the Principality Premiership table last season, Swansea are desperate to improve their squad this summer.

The Whites have also announced the permanent signing of full-back Andrew Claypole, who made a handful of appearances for the club last season.

"We were very pleased with his performance when he joined us towards the end of last season," added Hopkins.

"We look forward to seeing more of him and his attacking abilities this coming season."

Meanwhile, second row Sam Kiley requires another knee operation, which will rule him out for a large part of the 2013-14 campaign.

The 25-year-old's absence for a prolonged period means Swansea will be looking to sign a lock in the coming weeks.
