DRIVERS faced chaos this afternoon with the emergency closure of Mumbles Road.
A burst water main outside 344 Mumbles Road, West Cross, was the reason for the closure of the A4067 Mumbles Road, between Norton Avenue and Fairwood Road.
The damaged road was shut at 1pm and re-opened at about 4.30pm
Drivers were being urged to follow diversionary route signage taking them along Fairwood Road, West Cross Lane, West Cross Avenue and Norton Avenue.
But many motorists were reporting how routes all around the area were nose to tail with cars as a result.
One driver said: "It is a complete nightmare. I left Mumbles 40 minutes ago and I'm still only at West Cross.
"I took my own diversion but everyone has been doing the same and all the roads seem to be congested."
