Paul James to start against Lions

PAUL James is the lone Welsh starter in the Barbarians side to face the British and Irish Lions in Hong Kong on Saturday.

The Bath loose-head comes into a much-changed starting line up from last weekend's 40-12 hammering at the hands of a England at Twickenham.

There is no place for scrum-half Dwayne Peel in the match-day 23, but James Hook and Duncan Jones are named among the replacements alongside outgoing Ospreys scrum-half Kahn Fotuali'i.

The Lions have responded to their Twickenham loss by doing away with their regular "team bonding" drinking sessions. Team manager Derek Quinnell said: "The players have put a ban on themselves really. We went out last night for an hour with (representatives from Danish brewers) Carlsberg and I think they were under the impression that a few pints would be sunk, but about 90 per cent of the players were drinking coke.

"They know that last weekend wasn't good enough and it was a kick up the backside for us. They are more focused this week and the players know that if they don't look after their bodies in this sort of heat, they've got a problem coming. Fair play to them, they have reacted well to that."

Italian No. 8 Sergio Parisse will captain a side that also includes All Black flyer Joe Rokocoko.

Barbarians: J. Payne; J. Rokocoko, E. Daly, C. Laulala, T. Ngwenya; N. Evans, D. Yachvili; P. James, S. Brits, M. Castrogiovanni, M. Wentzel, D. Mumm, S. Manoa, S. Parisse, S. Jones. Reps: L. Ghiraldini, D. Jones, A. Lo Cicero, J. Hamilton, I. Harinordoquy, K. Fotuali'i, J. Hook, M. Tindall.
