FOLLOWING last week's dismal loss to Cardiff Double Blues, the Swansea Magpies Aussie Rules side were desperate to turn things around against reigning four-time WARFL champions South Cardiff Panthers.
The Magpies could be proud of the performance, even if the final 59-101 scoreline didn't reflect the competitive nature of the game.
The Magpies were in the Panthers' faces from the off and ended a fiercely contested first quarter just a point behind 15-16.
However, the Magpies downfall was the second quarter. They took their foot off the gas and conceded 41 points with only seven in reply.
From that point it was an uphill battle for a team containing four debutants and a number only playing their second ever game of Australian Rules football.
The Magpies kept fighting and won the fourth quarter 20-16.
Unfortunately, the game was already lost by that point. Barry Cawte starred for Swansea with an all-action performance, while the return of James Moon at ruck man made a difference.
The Magpies' next fixture is at home to Bristol Dockers on June 1.
