A SWANSEA cyclist has suggested converting the city's former greyhound track into a dedicated velodrome.
The site in Fforestfach is currently one of five locations under consideration by Swansea Council to provide a home to gypsy travellers as the authority's existing site for travellers is over subscribed.
Steve Colinese is a keen cyclist and suggested the former greyhound track would be better used to benefit the sport.
The 60-year-old from Gorseinon said: "I think there's one (a velodrome) in Carmarthen, but otherwise it's off to Cardiff or Newport.
"This would be a great facility for Swansea based cyclists, and as it's not too far from the likes of Bynea (which has a large cycling club) I'm confident it would be well used, especially if floodlit.
"Swansea has a seasonal ice rink and soon to be roller skating rink, a velodrome would be there all year round and would build on the success of London 2012 and Sir Bradley Wiggins, Team Sky, and Welsh cyclists."
Swansea Council is still considering the former greyhound track as one of five potential sites to house travellers in the city.
