SWANSEA City piled the misery on former manager Roberto Martinez by winning 3-2 at the DW Stadium to leave their opponents staring relegation in the face.
The Latics remain three points from safety with only two Premier League matches remaining.
For Swansea, the victory ended a seven match winless run that stretched back to the end of February.
Michael laudrup's side looked sluggish in the first half and fell behind to a Roger Espinoza goal seconds before the interval.
But they battled back after the break as strikes from Angel Rangel, Itay Shechter and Dwight Tiendalli were enough for victory despite an effort from Wigan's James McArthy.
The game was only three minutes old when a loose Espinoza pass let in Wayne Routledge whose near post shot was pushed wide of the post by Joe Robles.
From the following corner, Angel Rangel's shot was blocked before, at the other end, Arouna Kone's long range shot was well held by Michel Vorm.
After 10 minutes, Shaun Maloney nearly robbed Vorm after the Swansea stopper dwelt on the ball, but he was let off the hook because referee Kevin Friend spotted a foul and blew for a free-kick.
A Caldwell back pass to Robles presented Swansea with an opportunity in the shape of a free-kick inside the area that Ashley Williams blasted high into the stand.
Wigan took the lead on the stroke of half time when Vorm could only parry Ben Watson's free-kick to Roger Espinoza and he volleyed into the bottom corner.
Five minutes after the restart a superb Wayne Routledge ball found Angel Rangel and his excellent volley went in off the far post.
But they were level for just three minutes as Swansea's defence was sliced open by a pass from Gary Caldwell and James McCarthy smashed the ball past Vorm.
Just before the hour, a loose pass presented Pablo Hernandez with the ball. He fed Itay Shechter who scored his first ever Swansea goal after the ball deflected off Emmerson Boyce and went in off the post.
Michel produces a stunning save to tip Gary Caldwell's header over the bar and keep Swansea level.
Then on 76 minutes Dwight Tiendalli put Swansea ahead when he profits from a mix up between Shaun Maloney and James McArthur to prod past Robles.
Swansea also had to withstand nine minutes of injury time after Michel Vorm had to be stretchered off following a collision with Ben Davies.
