A GOWERTON pensioner had a lucky escape this morning when a car ploughed into the front of her home.

Marianne Heath was sitting on the bed of her Mount Street bungalow at 7am this morning when she heard a loud noise. When she investigated she discovered that a car had smashed through the front of her home, ending up in the living room.

The shocked 72-year-old widow said that 15 minutes later she would have been in the destroyed room with her two grandchildren.

Video from the scene:

She said: "I tried to get into the lounge but the door wouldn't open, so I opened the back door and went outside. When I walked around the corner I saw this car in the front of the house.

"It was unbelievable, I'm still shaking, I can't take it all in.

"A quarter of an hour later I would have been in that room with my two grandchildren.

It's a very lucky escape."

It is believed that the driver of the Audi convertible may have become unwell before the collision, which saw the vehicle accelerate through the property's gate, down its driveway and into the front of the building, although this has not been confirmed.

Mrs Heath, who was being comforted by her daughters, said she had been told that the driver was a 50-year-old.

Her daughter, Andrea Heath-Weekes, added: "He's come through the gate, probably about 80 mph, the gate is firewood, it was a solid five bar wooden gate, then the walled driveway has channelled it straight into the front of the house.

"His wife and daughter arrived while they were cutting him out."
