SWANSEA City players just cannot compete with Joey Essex, at least when it comes to their hair.
The reality TV star's haircut is by far the most requested, according to local barbers, many of whom say they are asked for the Essex boy's 'do' several times a week.
Victoria Cunningham, who works in hairdressing salon Mankind, in Eversley Road, said: "We get loads of people asking for celebrity haircuts and Joey Essex is the most popular. Men used to ask for Trundle but now they ask for celebrities on TV from programmes they watch."
Tanya Whalley, manager of The Barbers, in Oxford Street, said: "We get loads of people asking for one of the lads from Geordie Shore's haircut. It looks a bit like a comb- over."
Ceri Jones, manager of Hair By David, agreed. He said: "We get a few coming in asking for a haircut off Geordie Shore."
Danielle Lee, temporary manager of Taffy's Barber Shop, in Salubrious Place, said: "We get quite a few asking for Joey Essex or Ronaldo," while manager of Masons Barbers, in Woodfield Street, said: "We have quite a few who ask for Joey Essex, but we used to get people asking for Beckham."
On average, most people asking for the Joey Essex are around 17 to 18, although some barbers, including Mankind, have said customers up to the age of 25 are asking to look more like their favourite celebrity.
Kelly Simmons, manager of Mumbles Cutting Crew, in Newton Road, does still gets people asking for the haircuts of sporting personalities though.
She said: "We get a few asking for Ki, before that it was Sinclair and before that Trundle. We also get a few people asking for Ospreys players. I never know which ones though, because they always just have a picture on their phone."
