A COUPLE assaulted their friends with a wrench after plans for a threesome went wrong.
David Jones, and his then girlfriend Lowri Jones, went to the Pontarddulais home of Nicola Lewis and Michael Voysey in September 2011, Swansea Crown Court heard.
The couples, who were friends, had been drinking and taking drugs before David Jones suggested a threesome between himself, his girlfriend and Miss Lewis, who is also known as Nicola Evans.
Miss Lewis and Miss Jones declined and the following morning, the Jones's left the property.
They returned the following morning where an argument broke out before the Jones's again left.
The following day, at around 6am, Miss Lewis was woken by a knock on the door where she found David Jones standing in front of his girlfriend.
Lowri Jones then began assaulting her. She first punched her, before hitting her with a wrench.
The fight spilled into the bedroom, where David Jones was sleeping. He woke before David Jones began assaulting him.
He picked up the same wrench his girlfriend had used and assaulting Mr Voysey.
Miss Lewis was left with cut to her forehead and scalp and her partner also cuts and bruises.
They both needed hospital treatment.
Lowri Jones, of Maes Cynog, Ystradgynlais has a previous caution and warning for common assault, but her partner has 10 previous convictions for violence, Swansea Crown Court heard.
Lowri Jones, 20, had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and had a limited antecedent history, her barrister said.
Judge Peter Heywood said David Jones, aged 43, of Milborough Road, Ystalyfera, would be sentenced next week, but gave his partner a suspended sentence.
He said it was a "serious assault".
"There was clearly a background to this offence and it's clear to me that you acted out of character," the judge told Lowri Jones.
He said he also accepted the four had also taken drugs before the incident.
"Thankfully, more by luck than judgement, the injuries were not that serious," the judge added.
He gave Lowri Jones, who admitted grievous bodily harm, a 12 month sentence suspended for 18 months. She was also told to complete 18 months of supervision with the Probation Service.
David Jones, who admitted causing actual bodily harm, will be sentenced next week.
