SCARLETS head coach Simon Easterby has issued a rallying cry to the region's supporters to back the side's push for the RaboDirect Pro12 play-offs. A disappointing crowd of 6,901 watched the West Walians dismantle league leaders Glasgow at Parc y Scarlets last weekend. And ahead of Saturday's crucial Welsh derby against the Blues, Easterby has called for the fans to turn out in force. "These games should be the standard bearers, they should be near to full houses," he said. "We are playing for something and it will be really special if we can get to the play-offs and give ourselves an opportunity for silverware. I expect there to be a real good atmosphere on Saturday and hopefully the Blues supporters can add to that. "Welsh derbies are really important for the game and to show the quality in the regions. "There is a lot talked about the national team and how good they are, but the regional sides aren't too bad either and we are the ones pushing these players through to international rugby." When asked about last Friday's attendance, Easterby admitted the ongoing spat between the regions and the Welsh Rugby Union — sparked by the revelations that star wing George North was heading to Northampton Saints — had an impact. "We would obviously want more than that," he added. "Maybe the supporters have been distracted slightly by the regions versus WRU issues over the last couple of weeks and taken their focus away from the positives in our regional game. "I know the regions are working really hard and trying to push for a meeting next week to hopefully resolve that. "The regional game is strong and we need to make sure we get the great support we have had in the past. "We have only a couple of home games left and hopefully that will help spur people to come and support us on the weekend." Easterby has also confirmed that the search for a wing to fill North's boots is ongoing. As well as the departure of the Wales star, leading try-scorer Andy Fenby is joining London Irish in the summer, while Morgan Stoddart has been forced into premature retirement because of injury. "It's pretty evident we have got a little bit of a hole in the squad there, that is definitely a priority of ours," added Easterby. "It's something we are doing at the moment, but we have to obviously get quality there and that is not always available. "There are one or two players we have spoken to recently and hopefully we can announce a signing in a different position very soon."
