A YOUNG Llanelli dad has admitted stealing clothes for a night out from a town store.

But Samuel Joshua Terrence Funnell, 21, never got to reap the benefits his ill-gotten gains as he dropped the items while fleeing the scene.

The youngster, of Penybryn Caravan Park, admitted a count of theft from New Look on Saturday, October 6, while appearing before Llanelli magistrates.

The 21-year-old was reported to the police by members of the public, and after reviewing CCTV footage, Funnell was identified as a suspect, the court heard.

But three weeks later, he handed himself in for the offence at Llanelli Police Station.

On interview he told officers that the store was quiet, so he grabbed a coat, shirt and jeans and "ran as fast as he could" intending to wear them for a night out.

Gareth Jones, mitigating, said: "His intention was to buy the items but he was influenced by his friend.

"He dropped the items when he was running away so he didn't have any benefit from it.

"He is a married man with one child and is looking for employment and has got a job interview with a builders after this."

Magistrates fined Funnell £75 and he must pay £50 costs, a £20 victim surcharge and £50 compensation to New Look.
