A LLANELLI woman banned from driving for being drunk behind the wheel has been given two weeks to pay nearly £400 in fines — before she leaves the country.
Caroline Susan Griffin admitted being over the limit and driving without an appropriate licence or insurance while appearing before town magistrates.
The 38-year-old must cough up the fine in just 14 days, after she declined to take a drink driving course due to her plans to leave the country.
The court heard how at 8.10pm on October 21, police officers were driving along Station Road when they saw Ms Griffin drive out of Inkerman Street without pulling up at the stop line.
Griffin, of Stafford Street, appeared unsteady on her feet when pulled over, and was arrested after officers smelled alcohol on her breath.
The court heard that Griffin only had a provisional licence, was not insured and denied knowledge that she had to have learner plates on her car.
Mitigating, Steven Donoghue said: "Ms Griffin has not been in trouble before and this is her first time before the court. She was taken to Llanelli Police Station and put in a cell for many hours, that in itself was a lesson to her."
Magistrates banned Griffin from driving for 14 months, fined her £265 in total, and ordered her to pay £85 court costs plus a £15 victim surcharge.
