A LLANDEILO brewery is hoping to create new jobs by expanding the business.

Evan-Evans has lodged a planning application with Carmarthenshire Council to develop its Llandeilo brewery site.

The award-winning brewer is proposing to add two new buildings at the Rhosmaen Street premises, one to house a new process block and the other to create a new bottling hall.

If the application is successful six jobs will be created.

Simon Buckley, chief executive of the Evan-Evans brewery, said an initial application was refused by Carmarthenshire Council a year ago on the grounds that the sheds had wrinkly tin roofs.

He said the company lost a major contract with supermarket chain Waitrose when the application was refused last year, because he was not able to develop the site and create jobs.

"Once the sheds are built, we will create six jobs across the business and we will develop the bottling business as a major contract bottling operation," he said. The brewing company is also set to submit a further planning application for a cider mill, which is hoped to be built late 2013 or early 2014.

Mr Buckley said: "There is huge demand for our beers, and we need space.

"Let's hope that the planning committee members will drive this through for the benefit of the community, and let us get on with the job of brewing beer and creating jobs.

"We employ 65 people in the business and this will go up to more than 70 by June if the sheds are granted planning permission."
