A KIND-natured dog described as a "lifeline" who helps children and adults with learning difficulties has gone missing — sparking a countywide search and a reward.

The two-and-a-half year-old Golden Retriever named Alfie disappeared from the side of owner Ann Slater moment before she was due to take him walking at 2pm on Saturday afternoon.

Mrs Slater was just yards from her house at Bryndafydd Farm at Esgairdawe near Llansawel when Alfie disappeared.

She said he is a lifeline to adults and children dealing with emotional issues and learning problems.

He is a 'therapy' dog and regularly visits schools and nursing homes.

Through Mrs Slater's work as a youth worker at Ysgol Pantycelyn in Llandovery Alfie is at the school a few days a week spending time with children.

Mrs Slater said: "I have been updating Facebook about the search.

"People are rallying around like I have never known, turning out to search, printing off posters, going farm to farm, putting posters in their windows. The number of helpers and concern is immense.

"Alfie may have been

taken, or locked in somewhere by accident so I would ask people to check outbuildings. Or he is just lost."

Alfie is white in colour and large for his age. He has a red collar, a name tag, and is microchipped.

Mrs Slater is offering a reward for his safe return. Anyone who may have seen Alfie or knows where he is can contact Mrs Slater on 07554 050712.
