Wood wonder

THE first signs of work on the boulevard could be spotted yesterday with the removal of huge trees at the junction of The Strand and Quay Parade.

They were cut down on the central reservation overnight on Wednesday.

The wood, however, will be donated to a charity in the Swansea Valley.

Ystradgynlais Volunteer Centre takes in wood that would ordinarily go to landfill, to help support the community.

Manager Caroline Bull said: "We are grateful for the donation. When we receive it, it will be left to dry out and hopefully then we can make benches and tables.

"We are a volunteer recycling project making things out of unwanted wood, promoting awareness and reduce landfill.

"We sell the items through our factory, which is the old Remploy site."
