SWANSEA is to get a royal visitor for St David's Day.
The Queen will be in the city to present leeks to troops from 3rd Battalion The Royal Welsh on Saturday, March 2.
The monarch will arrive at Swansea railway station, where she will be greeted by the Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan Byron Lewis before being escorted to the Guildhall for the leek parade.
The Queen — who is Colonel-in-Chief of the battalion — will then attend a reception with the soldiers and their families, before having a civic lunch. Former Swansea Council leader Chris Holley, who met the Queen when she opened the city's rebuilt LC leisure centre in 2008, said: "This is a great honour for the city.
"Swansea has shown its support for our armed forces over the years, and it is tremendous that Her Majesty is coming here to take part in the St David's Day leek ceremony with the Royal Welsh.
"It will be a very special occasion for Wales's premier city and I hope the crowds turn out to show their support.''
The Queen last visited South West Wales in May last year when she went to Margam Park as part of her jubilee tour with the Duke of Edinburgh.
As well as touring the park the royal couple attended a reception and lunch for 160 guests who represented different organisations, charities and also those from the world of sport, business and politics.
The Queen's trip to Swansea next week will start around 11.30am.
Swansea Council say a number of roads around the Guildhall will be closed for visit — Francis Street, Guildhall Road North, Guildhall Road South, St Helen's Crescent, Victoria Avenue will be shut from 6am to 4pm.
