Schools's out but soccer school starts for youngsters in Port Talbot

AFTER saying goodbye for half-term, a group of Port Talbot youngsters went straight back to school.

They have been taking part in a soccer school based at Port Talbot Town Football Club.

It is run by Port Talbot Town Community Sports Limited, a new company formed within the soccer club.

More than 20 youngsters, around a third of them girls, have been put through their paces.

"It's about promoting fun as well as a healthy lifestyle," said football in the community officer Lee John. "The youngsters have been learning new skills and taking part in tournaments and challenges."

Port Talbot Town's Matthew Crowell, who played for Swansea as a schoolboy before being signed by Southampton, made a guest appearance yesterday when he took part in a Q&A session.

Mr John said there would definitely be another soccer school during Easter.

"We hope to get more youngsters taking part," he said. "We'd particularly like to see more girls involved."
