A SWANSEA pensioner who was more than twice the legal drink-drive limit has been sentenced.

Daniel Lewis, aged 70, of Heol Caerllion, Cwmrhydyceirw, pleaded guilty at Neath Magistrates' Court following the incident last October.

The court heard Lewis collided with the back of a bus in Heol Maes Eglwys and was found to have 203 miligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his blood. The legal limit is 80.

Following the accident he was taken to nearby Morriston Hospital. He had suffered minor bruising to his chest.

In mitigation the court heard Lewis was of previous clean character and that his wife had died last year.

Magistrate Caroline Wheeler said: "I am sure this will never happen again and we are sorry for your loss.

"Nevertheless, this could have resulted in something very serious indeed."

Lewis was fined £400 and ordered to pay £40 victim surcharge and £50 in costs.

He was also banned from driving for 22 months and will attend a drink and drive rehabilitation course.
